“FUNNY” IS DRY, DROLL AND AMUSING ALT-POP BY KAI BOSCH

A breakup with a boyfriend inspired Kai Bosch’s latest single “Funny.” The tune sounds like Bosch’s voice, which is characterized as “distinctive crooning,” is processed though some kind of feedback loop of fuzz against a backdrop of electronic beats as well as subtle and understated percussive musical parts. Bosch has a clever knack for writing a memorable pop song.  Fortunately, it is not at the expense of the “sad yet not so sad tale” of maybe never really having the relationship he wanted and to find out his boyfriend was cheating him on with another guy. This new love interest had to be fairly insecure because he was checking out Bosch’s feed on Instagram. Talk about the twisted yet delicious irony. Though Bosch was dumped by the former object of his desire, the new flame was obviously not feeling very special, either. Still, Bosch remained “bitter and resentful” felt this experience left him vulnerable and was “soul crushing.” Yet, he held out hope would run into him again and rekindle what they had been before and now not just be strangers. “Funny” is Kai Bosch’s cathartic journey revisiting a relationship that ended badly. Yet Bosch manages to find some humor in the situation and gain some unique insights. It would make anyone going through something remotely close themselves sneer, smirk and snicker, too, through the pain and tears.
