Blackpaw hit the stage Friday night to a welcoming early crowd at the Echo. Their set consisted of a guitar with modern inspired synths and throughout their 40-minute set, concertgoers danced and cheered. Blackpaw’s set was a great start to a night filled with rock and experimental music.
Experimental band, Collapsing Scenery started a new trend at the Echo by playing on a makeshift stage in the smaller Los Angeles venue. Before they were about to play, lead singer of the band told everyone to come closer and people in the front row were inches from the band. The lead singer used the temporary stage and moved quickly about throughout the set. And if you’re wondering, yes, that’s Mickey Madden from Maroon 5 as the frontman.
Next headliners Warbly Jets hit the main stage, stating how they were excited to be back in their hometown of Los Angeles. There was enough space in the venue as well for the fans to openly dance as they played. With this being their EP release, Warbly Jets played a couple of new songs, which the band members graciously thanked the crowd for letting them play some new material. But even with the new release, showing that they have not stopped making music, they played a new song “1000 pounds”, which the lead singer, Samuel had the newly written lyrics on a paper so he would not forget.
Warbly Jets also played some fan favorites such as Alive and Shapeshifter that got the Echo crowd dancing. During moments of guitar solos, the crowd cheered for these Los Angeles locals, showing that fans were glad they played a Los Angeles show.
