Los Angeles began their weekend a night early this past Thursday evening. Ry Cuming, better known as Ry X, performed a very special hometown show along with his current world tour.
In support of his sophomore record ‘Unfurl‘, Ry X had an incredible set up with special support from some players from the Worldless Orchestra. When Ry X released his EP, ‘Berlin‘ back in 2013, he claimed plenty of recognition, eventually bringing him to mainstream radio which is where I personally discovered him some moons ago via Pandora. In three years, Ry X debuted his full-length record, ‘Dawn‘ via Infectious Records and Loma Vista Records. It goes without saying for fans widespread that he successfully planted his feet in the industry.
For the nearly sold out, generous crowd at the beautiful Ace Theatre, Ry X gave a stunning performance. From beginning to end, Ry held us all by a string as we just sank into our seats with our mouths agape in wonder.
When I last caught Ry X, he performed a beautifully intimate show at the Masonic Lodge inside Hollywood’s Forever Cemetery. The small venue truly felt like a private show for each attendee, whereas now he nearly sold out the 1600-seat palace theatre and somehow managed to make it just as intimate! I was sitting in the furthest seat on the raised balcony with my eyes glued to the stage as Ry so effortlessly orchestrated the stage in a stunning unison.
Alone, Cuming’s vocals are standout flawless. When you back him up with a string orchestra, you get drop dead gorgeous! Performing all of the fan favorites and gaining immediate applause upon the first two guitar strokes, Ry also performed plenty of new songs off his sophomore masterpiece, Unfurl, which released last month. All in all, it was a stellar night of beautiful music we won’t soon forget.
