There is a certain feeling that you get when listening to the Chicago based trio Russian Circles. Over the past 5 albums, they have curated a beautiful array of sounds that echo the core of post-rock. Stop and start, swell and subside, harsh and subtle.
Their songs take you on a sonic journey to a place where lyrics do not exist and are not needed. Guitarist Mike Sullivan conducts a one-man orchestra with his guitar while bass player Brian Cook unleashes bass rifts from a world all his own. Dave Turncrantz leads the charge on drums and maintains the foundation for the arresting textures and ethereal rifts they create with their music.
The Echoplex was filled to the brim with fans old which created an interesting dynamic of some being consumed by the music and others standing idle and observing. If you are interested in going on a journey with this band check out their new album ‘Guidance’, for a trip to a different planet.
