Hi, Drew (Bass) here! Excited to tell you that we finally launched the first two entries to our Altostratus Cinematic Universe. This has been brewing for us for years, and the first film was shot before we had even recorded our latest album (with Northeast film legend, Lewis Dodds). The first short – Holy Guacamole // The Conception – is a prequel to our latest music video, and follows the story of how our main character – Avocado Man – came into existence through Witchdoctors and Magic. Shortly after, we released our music video for the song “Persea Americana.” We had this very silly idea years ago to follow the life and death of an Avocado man, where the visuals and emotions match the beats of the song. So far feedback for it has been great, people have said how genuinely touched they have been by a man cycling around in a cheap Avocado costume.
The gents in the young yet fearless progressive-metal band Altostratus have started leaving their mark on the music community, as well as countless new fans. Hailing from Newcastle in the UK, Altostratus formed in 2015 has been on a tear ever since. Their music is fresh, innovative, and connects with the listener on levels that can’t be explained. If you’re a fan of “instrumetal”, Altostratus is your new go-to band.
HOW IS QUARANTINE LIFE?
It is what it is! Taking each day as it comes and trying to be sensible and not do too much “doom scrolling.” We all wish for more free time during everyday life, thinking that we’ll get so much done, but it’s different when actually presented to you under these circumstances. I’m just focusing on keeping a good network with my family and staying safe.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO KEEP YOURSELF OCCUPIED AT HOME?
Quizzes. Endless quizzes… I’m also right into Devin Townsend’s new podcast and this other podcast called “My Dad Wrote A Porno” which would highly recommend. Alex (Guitar) and I have been getting into coding and he’s been doing live stream concerts with his Girlfriend who is a very talented singer. Jack (drums) has started streaming World Of Warcraft on Twitch @Djente44 and Jordan (Guitar) when he’s not working from home has been messing about with his green screen. Other than that, we’ve all been putting the hours in with our instruments, gotta maintain the chops for when we return to the stage!
WHEN THIS IS ALL OVER, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST?
Common answer but definitely seeing friends and family in person, I’m lucky to not be quarantining alone but I feel for the people who are. This whole thing has given everyone a lot of perspective I think, and I definitely won’t be taking many things for granted as I have done before this.
LET US KNOW A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE PLAYLIST YOU’VE COMPILED FOR US!
One of the things I’m doing during this time is pretending – with my girlfriend – that our flat is a nightclub on the weekends. We have one of those light bulbs that change colours so we change the tunes/colour depending on what floor we’re on in our minds. It sounds like we’re losing the plot but it’s just a good bit of fun. My playlist is some of the songs that we use, as well as some iconic Metal Bangers, some Swag Space-y stuff, and one of mine and the boys’ tunes in the middle.
