Phish’s “Baker’s Dozen” donut themes have been coming from more angles than the top and the bottom. After pictures of MSG as a donut, and tickets shaped like donuts, the band has also begun naming an official ‘donut’ for the night, given to a lucky few fans in attendance courtesy of Federal Donuts.

The first flavor, coconut, quickly sparked buzz Friday night as the 13 show run started with a Junior Senior cover “Shake Your Coconuts”. This leading to rampant speculation about the songs and flavors to come. Phish also covered another apt-themed song, Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut” as well as “Reba”, which uses coconuts in its recipe.

Saturday’s flavor was ‘strawberry’ which commenced with an a cappella cover of The Beatles’ “Strawberry Field Forever” segued into “Halley’s Comet”. The second set saw the cover of Shuggie Otis’ “Strawberry Letter 23”. Sunday’s flavor was ‘red velvet’ which predictably included “Wading in the Velvet Sea” in addition to several Velvet Underground covers.

Following the day off on Monday, the flavor of the day for Tuesday was ‘jam filled’ which fueled speculation with even greater fervor. The result – a five song 1st set consisting of “Sample in a Jar” “Lawn Boy” “My Friend, My Friend” “Stash” and “Bathtub Gin”, each lasting over 10 minutes, including a 30 minute “Lawn Boy”. The second set contained a 33 minute “Crosseyed and Painless” and a 19 minute “Fuego”.

Tonight (Wednesday) the flavor has been announced as ‘powdered’, leading back towards broader speculation of what is to come. Each night of the Baker’s Dozen is available to stream live here.
