Metalcore band Of Mice & Men have had their share of turbulence. Since Austin Carlile’s departure from the band due to Marfan syndrome, there was no telling whether the group would break up or stay whole. After some time to consider all options, the band announced they’d be continuing the musical journey without Carlile. Electing to keep things internal, bassist Aaron Pauly picked up screaming duties, which can be heard on the band’s latest song release, “Unbreakable.”
“We’re incredibly excited for the world to hear our brand new song “Unbreakable,” which is all about staring fear in the face, overcoming fear’s ability to keep you stagnant, and telling it where it stands,” says Pauley. “Through this transitional time, we’ve felt the tremendous outpouring of love, encouragement, and support from our fans around the world, and we can’t wait to see you all soon. None of this would be possible without you, and we thank you all, endlessly.”
The music video which compliments “Unbreakable” is directed by the wildly talented Max Moore and features the band in a desert environment. Beginning the video is a shot of a woman laying face down in the sand. The video quickly cuts to a live performance of the band rocking out followed by the woman seeing what appears to be a ghost of a small girl in the distance. As the dehydrated woman walks to a nearby abandoned gas stations in search of water, she is revisited by the ghost of a small girl. The video features impeccable editing with quick jump cuts and crisp cinematography.
Director Max Moore tells Get Some Magazine, “Directing/shooting the new Of Mice & Men video was a lot of fun. This was my fourth video with the band so in a lot of ways, the creative process felt very comfortable and easy. I had a creative call with the band, management, and label like two weeks before the deadline of the video was due. I heard generally what vibe or emotion they were looking for, then went and wrote the treatment. From there, we were all out in the desert shooting just it like 7 days later or something wild. Everything from writing, shooting, and editing all came together very quickly- not rushed I will add, just very efficiently. I was visually trying to hit a dystopian Mad Max kind of aesthetic, which the very scenic California desert added to / helped out a lot making that come together, I think. All in all, it was a really fun project to make.” Watch the video in its entirety by clicking below!
