Metric released a new single today, “Dark Saturday,” their first new material since the release of 2015’s Pagans in Vegas. The single finds them returning to a more guitar oriented sound, eschewing the heavily produced synth pop of their last album.
Starting with a low hum of distortion, the song really embraces its rough edges. Emily Haines vocals emerge from the cacophony of the distortion buzz and the driving beat.
There is still no news on a new album, but “Dark Saturday” joins “Come On Angel,” which was unveiled last year on The Strombo Show. If these first two singles are any indication, this next album will be a statement worth waiting for.
Metric is on tour this summer on the Smashing Pumpkin’s Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour. Check out their upcoming shows and buy tickets here.
