The Synthwave scene here in Los Angeles is exploding, and Future Holotape is one of the bands leading the charge. Get Some Magazine had a chance to sit down with the band and discuss their influences, latest album, the Synthwave scene and their future. We happened to have a couple of cameras with us too, so you can hear about the band in their own words below.
Band members Ernest Mancia and Julie Chang released their first full length in 2014, Analog Renegades, just before the Synthwave’s explosion in popularity. Future Holotapes experimented on this album, trying to find their signature sound.
Their latest album released earlier this year, Terra District 1, is an ambitious step forward. It is a concept album, telling a dark narrative. Their sound has changed and you can feel the band growing more confidant creatively on tracks like “Rogue.”
Future Holotape is back in the studio working on a new album. It is currently untitled, but is expected to drop in the Fall of 2018. They are expected to release a new track shortly, so stay tuned here for all of the latest news.
Expect to hear some new tracks at their first show of 2018, February 17th at the Whisky A Go Go. The lineup is stacked with tons of local Synthwave groups like Shredder 1984 and FacexHugger. Don’t miss out on what is expected to be a killer show, get your tickets here.
Don’t forget to pick up your very own copy of Terra District 1 and other Future Holotape goodies like t-shirts, patches and enamel pins here. Future Holotape also have a track featured on Retro Promenade’s Christmas compilation It’s Christmas Time! IV: The Quest for Peace, which you can get here.
