Elton John Live

Elton John has announced his very last world tour, dubbed the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, an exhaustive three year, 300 date love letter to his fans. The announcement was made via a live VR event where a five-minute package took attendees through John’s entire career. Immediately following, he performed “Tiny Dancer” live and a stripped down version of “I’m Still Standing.”

Afterward, Anderson Cooper interviewed Elton John. John told him “I’m not going to be touring and traveling the world. My priorities have changed. I have young children. That doesn’t mean I won’t still be creative,” he said. “But I won’t travel anymore…I don’t want to go out with a whimper. I want to go out with a bang…It’ll be the most produced, fantastic show I’ve ever done.”

John went on to say, “I’m 71. I can’t physically do the traveling anymore. I want to be at home. I really want to spend time with my children at home. I’ve had an incredible life, but life is all about change.”

Elton John wanted to make it clear that he is not done with either music or recording, “I definitely want to make a couple more albums, but that will be easy since I can do that at home.” After a short break upon concluding his tour in 2021, John vows he will begin writing new material.

He also said that upon completing the tour, he will continue to play live, not ruling out a residency like Billy Joel’s at Madison Square Garden or his own residency at Caesar’s Palace. John’s husband/manager David Furnish said, “Some people relish the idea of a retirement where they do nothing [but] for Elton that would be purgatory. Playing to live audiences is going to be something he always needs to do.”

Elton John is playing the Staples Center here in Los Angeles on January 22 & 23, 2019. Tickets go on sale February 2nd here.
