ZOE KO’S CLUB HIT “DIRT” BRINGS GRIT BACK TO ROCK MUSIC

Zoe Ko is a genre-bending artist from NYC, a gritty city that has built up quite a reputation. However, its locals are loyal, devotees to the good, bad, and ugly that the city has to offer. One could argue that locals would suggest these are the characteristics that make the city worth visiting and living in. Zoe Ko found herself nostalgic for these traits, masterminding her new single “Dirt” after moving across the country to LA.

Ko describes her songwriting as “dramatic,” sprouting from a bit of homesickness; yet this epiphany made for some incredible lyricism.

“Where’s the dirt?” perfectly encapsulates what she was experiencing as she learned a completely new territory.

Sonically, this single is incredible; the way it borrows from several genres effortlessly is inspirational, allowing Ko to create her signature sound authentically. Electric guitar riffs paired with a dance club beat might seem like an eclectic choice at a surface-level analysis, but boy–IT WORKS.
