TETHERBALL’S “SAD PARADE” ISN’T A DOWNER TRACK INSTEAD AN EXPLORATION lN JAUNTY MELANCHOLIA

Tetherball has a mission statement of sorts: “They hope to contribute good vibes to the indie music community at large.” “Sad Parade” is the L.A. band’s debut single release. It’s a credible entry in a very crowded field of bands and artists to stand out and not morph into everyone else. Yet the relatively new band was inspired by the sound of 90’s girl grunge so on that level it’s familiar but manages not to default to being derivative, either. The single deals lyrically with sadness, a bit of loss, and emptiness. When it comes down to it, the most striking feature of the track is the feisty musical interplay in the band and bright, shifting dynamics that give some weight and punch to “Sad Parade.”
