There’s no other way to kick off NAMM 2019 weekend by throwing a show with one of the biggest names in progressive rock. Animals As Leaders treated some of their loyal fans with a very intimate show right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
Nothing spells NAMM more than a band with 2 of the best and creative guitar players in the world, Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes and one of the best damn drummers around, Matt Garstka. Animals As Leaders won the world over with their very technical and insanely creative song arrangements since 2007 and became a household name in the prog world.
Quite honestly this isn’t really my cup of tea but seeing this performance live totally blew me away. Even their more mellow songs were just as exciting as their upbeat ones. Growing up I’m a big fan of racing games and this music definitely reminds me of all the hours spent playing Ridge Racer and Initial D. Yeah, this hardcore kid is definitely stoked on this shit.
The band doesn’t have any other shows announced in the US so this night was quite special but they will be quite busy with the European festival circuit this year. So if you’re out there.. and have never seen AAL? Bro! Get on that my guy!
