Album Review: AFI – ‘The Blood Album’

In a world that is constantly changing, but trying to remember its roots, AFI has found a voice in their new record, The Blood Album. This veteran west coast outfit has once again proven that growth and evolution will always be an aspect of their music. This newest effort showcases their ability to write a catalog of songs that captures the true essence of what we have all grown to love about this band – their genuineness in the music composition and lyrical content. After four years, AFI has come back with a new, yet strong sound that pulls you into the pulse of the record. Track after track, The Blood Album displays the band’s transformation as they enter their 22nd year as a band.

As each song plays on, there are several notable elements. You can instantly hear a new tonality to AFI, but you also hear hints of The Art of Drowning, Black Sails in the Sunset, and Sing the Sorrow. This marriage of old and new takes you through a stage in the band’s career that reaffirms that they are not going anywhere. AFI has done such an incredible job of slowly evolving their sound over the years, reaching a place where fans can anticipate this record and the exciting new music it brings. The Blood Album is a breath of fresh air.

Catch AFI on tour this spring as they play a collection of new songs from this record, as well as the great ones we have been listening to for years.
