Russian animation studio ArhyBes has released a new video entitled “Batmetal Forever” and it is a nerd’s wet dream. The video is a Ready Player One level conglomeration of geek references including comic books, metal music, video games and movies.
The video is the latest in a trilogy of videos detailing the exploits of a metal band made up of Batman heroes Batman, Robin, Red Hood, Red Robin, Nightwing and Batgirl. In the latest Batmetal is trying to reanimate the corpse of the Joker by using black magic. They use the Necronomicon Ex Mortis from the Evil Dead movies and manage to run into characters from Overwatch, The Mummy, Rick and Morty, Tangled, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mixed with Tenacious D, amongst many others. They even manage to reference their previous videos.
The music used in the video features Brendon Small’s Galaktikon “My Name is Murder,” Power Glove’s “Batman,” Dethklok’s “Awaken,” Sean Mayle’s “8 Bit Awaken Cover” and Nick Arundel’s “Have You Got My Location.” In the animation, the band performs in a temple overseen by statues of Jimi Hendrix, Freddie Mercury, Ronnie James Dio, Sid Vicious and Lemmy Kilmeister.
Batmetal has become an Youtube phenomenon. The first video has over 26M views, “Batmetal Returns” has over 31M views and the newest installment has racked up 2.7M views in 24 hours. Their videos has also spawned countless reaction videos. Let’s hope that “Batmetal & Robin” is coming soon!
Batmetal is also coming live in concert through a Holographic show with a live band. They will invade Los Angeles on December 18th. Buy your tickets here.
