Perth based musician Riley Pearce is breaking hearts with his latest music video for his song “If I Knew.” A slow, sombre song focusing on the loss of a relationship, the video follows a man in a coin laundry mat, dealing with his past mistakes.
The song is slow in tempo, with simple piano and synths. Guitar and drums fall in, albeit sparingly. Riley takes time to have each instrument build on top of the other, adding trumpets. By the time the climax of the song hits, the music swells, fading away as the song ends.
The video follows the tempo and building of the song perfectly. Starting with a man in the corner, he pulls a stained shirt out of a washer and leaves in on one of the dryer doors. He goes and sets up a casual dinner set up, made from items found in a laundry mat. Turning to the camera, his facial expressions go from happy, sad, to mad, as an unknown lover throws a cup of wine on his now clean white shirt. Right as the song swells, he destroys his dinner setup, removes the stained shirt and returns to his original position.
