Seattle based musician Hibou, known for his more 80’s pop-inspired music, creates something completely unique with his newest single, “Junipero Love”. Inspired by the Black Mirror episode, “San Junipero”, which deals with the fear of committing to love, the episode helped guide Hibou musically as it showed, “Patience, dedication, and purity [as] outgoing themes throughout the story..” which reflect in his song.

The song begins with synths that trail off into space as electric guitar enters to pick up the pace accompanied by drums. Hibou, with his soft-spoken voice, begins to sing, concluding the song on a hopeful note. Known for recording most of his first album, Hibou, in a walk-in closet, which lends to a more indie 80’s rock vibe, his latest single and upcoming album, Something Familiar, was recorded in a studio, giving it a more polished sound.

Along with the change in location regarding the recording of his music, Hibou also dives deeper into his music lyrically, bringing up more personal thoughts from darker sides of his life such as his struggle with anxiety and depersonalization. Fans can expect a polished sound mixed with his dream pop, 80’s influences just, “drenched in a little more honesty”.

Hibou’s latest album, Something Familiar, will be released on March 2nd, 2018 on Barsuk Records. For more information, click here!
