Having initially started as a joke, “Zoey”, the second single off of Winter’s latest album Ethereality, is an ode, a love song to her cat, “but also for all the people that love their cats and want to hear songs about cats.”
Based off of frontwoman Samira Winter’s time sitting on a porch with her boyfriend making fun of shoe-gaze songs, a type of indie ethereal mix of masked vocals and distorted instruments, “Zoey” starts with drums, followed by Winter’s voice distant and obscured. Moving into the chorus, heavily distorted guitar plays, the song eventually trailing off into silence.

It’s a fun song, beautifully imitating the sub-genre of dream pop it was initially trying to make fun of. But honestly, what I think we are all dying to know is what does her cat think of the song?
