Danish synthwave phenom Code Elektro dropped an impressive new video for the track “Shinobi” from his latest album Triads. The video stars Maximiliano Hernandez (Sicario, The Walking Dead) as the head of the evil corporation.
The video, directed by Victor Velasco, features all of the synthwave earmarks, like a Lamborghini Countach, a futuristic cityscape, pop culture references, robot ninjas and a main character with psychic powers.
The look of the video is also inspired by Grindhouse films like Thriller: A Cruel Picture with a flashback that features the main character getting her eyeball removed. She subsequently wears an eyepatch throughout the short film.
Here is the official synopsis:
“The action takes place in the year 2753. A Japanese psychic girl infiltrates into a mega corporation guarded by robot ninjas. She wants to take revenge after the loss of her girlfriend who was killed by the president of the company.”
“Shinobi” joins the equally cool and ambitious video for “Cyber Dreams,” about a robot courier. Code Elektro videos take a cinematic approach that sets him above the synthwave pack. His sci-fi visuals perfectly describe his music, setting the viewer in a rich, fully realized world. Hopefully we will see more of them in the near future.
