“World Gone Mad” the newest single by Bastille is featured on the soundtrack of the new Will Smith film Bright. The film was directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, Fury), stars Will Smith, Noomi Rapace and Joel Edgerton and debuts on Netflix on December 22nd. The film is set in a world where mystical creatures live side by side with humans. A human cop is forced to work with an Orc to find a weapon everyone is prepared to kill for.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Bastille frontman Dan Smith described the process of writing for a film as “an absolute dream” because he is an avid movie fan. “Often when you hand something in or send something off there’s a delay, and as a creative person it can be crushing if you don’t hear something back even within a day,” he said. “And literally 10 minutes later, I got a call back and everyone was really into it and wanted it to be a single. It was one of the most satisfying experiences like that I’ve ever had.”
Smith also revealed, “We are in the midst of finishing a mixtape, and in the middle of an album.” The mixtape is Other People’s Heartache Vol. 4, and Bastille took a different approach to making it. They are going to focus on actual collaborations with rappers and producers instead of using other people’s songs as a jumping off point.
Their third album is “pretty much written” and Smith describes it as “an apocalyptic party record.” He explains that means trying to have a good time, for your own sanity’s sake, while it seems like everything around you is falling apart. It will be “much more intimate, probably slightly more inward looking, and fun.”
